INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC
Bands
The Stockdale High School Band Program is leveled into two groups for the spring semester where we continue to work on musicianship in a concert setting. Both groups attend ratings festivals and give multiple concerts. Both ensembles utilize the same audition material.
In addition to our annual festival performances, we encourage students to participate in outside opportunities such as Grand Night for Music Honor Band, All-State Honor Bands, CMEA Solo & Ensemble Festival, and Kern County Honor Jazz Band.
Wind Symphony
Wind Symphony is our most advanced wind ensemble at Stockdale. This ensemble consistently receives Unanimous Superiors at CMEA Festivals each year. Students are selected by audition and perform a variety of challenging musical literature each year. Members of this ensemble are encouraged to participate in county and state level honor groups as well as Solo & Ensemble Festival. This course meets first period each day.
Symphonic Band
Symphonic Band is our intermediate level ensemble. This ensemble focuses on fundamentals and technique, while learning to play expressively to develop as musicians. This course meets first period each day.
Jazz Bands
The Stockdale Silver Jazz Band is an audition-only ensemble that meets eighth period. This group is for students looking to dive into improvisation and a variety of musical styles through advanced literature. We perform at various events throughout the community in addition to Jazz Day at Bakersfield College each year. Our Mustang Jazz group is also offered to develop the young jazz musician. This ensemble meets once per week as an introductory course, and for those who may not have the time commitment for the Silver Jazz Band.
