ENSEMBLES​

Marching Band

 

 

The award winning Silver Mustang Band & Color Guard is one of the largest and finest marching bands in the state. The Silver Mstang Band & Color Guard travel throughout Kern County and California to compete in field show competitions. We often perform in our local Veteran's Day and Christmas Parades. The band & color guard have a lot of chool spirit and are involved in many school activities. We perform the halftime show at all of our home football games and play as a Pep Band at most of the away games. The Silver Mustang Band & Color Guard have performed at Disneyland, Magic Mountain, Bulldog Stadium in Fresno, and the Rose Bowl in Pasadena. For five consecutive years, the Silver Mustang Band & Color Guard represented Kern County in the SCJA California State Marching Band Championships. It is a wonderful group to be a part of and a place where you can make good friends, have fun, and work hard to create something exceptional together. 

 

 

Color Guard & Winter Guard

 

During Marching Band season, the Color Guard is an integral part of the marching design, color palette, and musical interpretation of the show

 

From January-April, the Winter Guard puts together a new show and performs in competitions in Kern County, other parts of California, and competes at the WGI World Championships in Dayton, Ohio. 

Drumline & Winter Percussion

 

Drumline is the heartbeat and pulse of the Marching Band. It keeps the band working together as one rhythmic unit. 

 

From January-April, the Drumline puts together an Indoor show and performs in WGI and PPAACC competitions throughout Kern County and other parts of California.

String & Symphony Orchestras

 

 

The Stockdale High School Symphony Orchestra and String Orchestra are regarded as two of the finest high school orchestras around. With over 150 string players they are also the largest.

 

The Stockdale High School Orchestras have received numerous unanimous superior ratings at the state ratings festival. In April of 2018 the Symphony Orchestra has the opportunity to perform on a showcase concert at Carnegie Hall in New York.

 

The orchestras perfrom concerts in the Fall and Winter as well as two in the Spring. Every other year, members of the orchestra perfom as part of the Stockdale Musical Theatre.

 

There is an audition in August to be accepted into the Symphony Orchestra or String Orchestra. When registering for classes, all string players should sign up for String Ensemble and all wind and percussion players should sign up for Advanced Band.

 

 

Wind Symphony & Symphonic Band

 

 

The concert bands at Stockdale High School are named the Wind Symphony and the Symphonic Band. Both ensembles are made up of members from the marching band. In December, after marching season is over, auditions are held and the marching band splits into these two concert bands. These bands perform at concerts and ratings festivals. The Stockdale High School concert bands have a history of consistently receiving high ratings at festival. The Wind Symphony has received unanimous superior ratings since it began. 

The Stockdale High School Wind Symphony performed at the California Music Educators Convention in 2000.

 

The top players in the Wind Symphony also have the opportunity to play in the wind section of our Symphony Orchestra. Many Stockdale High School Band members audition for and make honor groups at the county and state level.

Jazz Band

 

 

The Jazz Band is a high energy group which is made up of sax, trumpet, trombone, and rhythm section players from the members of the marching band or concert bands. The rhythm section includes piano, guitar, bass, and drums. The group performs at concerts and other events as scheduled. The Stockdale High School Jazz Band has played for events such as Rotary Club functions, swing dances, and the Beautiful Bakersfield Awards at the Fox Theater. Jazz Band meets as an 8th Period Class after school.
